BMI below 20:
With a BMI below 20 you are lean and have a low amount of body fat. If you are an athlete, a low BMI is very desirable. If you are not an athlete, a lean BMI can indicate that your weight may be too low which may lower your immunity. If your BMI and body weight are low, you should consider gaining weight through good diet and exercise habits, to increase your muscle mass.

BMI between 20 and 22:
Studies have shown that this range is the ideal and a healthy amount of body fat, which is associated with living longest, and the lowest incidence of serious illness. Not surprising that this ratio is what many individuals believe to be the most aesthetically attractive.

BMI between 22 and 25:
This is an acceptable range, and is associated with good health. Even though this range is acceptable you should be careful as to not allow yourself to slip any further.

BMI between 25 and 30:
If your BMI is in this range you are considered "Hefty" and should work to lower your weight through diet and exercise. At this level you have increased your risk for a variety of illnesses at your present weight.

BMI over 30:
With a BMI over 30 you are in an unhealthy condition and are putting yourself at risk for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, gall bladder disease and some cancers. You should lose weight by changing your diet and exercising more.
